Chicago, IL – Legendary writer Ray Bradbury worked across genres and disciplines, inspiring generations of artists in literature, visual art, film, and music. His career spanned over 70 years and continues to inform our culture with its visionary ideas and lyrical language. Books like Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and many others, have become essential fixtures in the landscape of literature.
To celebrate his birthday, Aug. 22, 2016, Bradburyesque emerges as a special Ray Bradbury-focused issue of online literary journal Goreyesque (www.goreyesque.com). The editors encourage writers and artists to send submissions of short stories, essays, poetry, visual art, short film, music, and other art. The deadline for submissions is Apr. 22, 2016 (full guidelines are available at: www.goreyesque.com/submission-guidelines).
Bradburyesque will feature work inspired by the themes, styles, and tone of Bradbury’s writing. It will be guest edited by journalist and author Sam Weller, whose role as Bradbury’s authorized biographer and friend produced the definitive studies of his life and career: The Bradbury Chronicles; Listen to the Echoes; and Ray Bradbury: The Last Interview.

Weller and author Mort Castle co-edited Shadow Show: All-New Stories in Celebration of Ray Bradbury, a 2012 Bram Stoker Award-winning anthology (and now a comic book series by IDW) featuring Bradbury-inspired work by noted authors such as Neil Gaiman, Audrey Niffenegger, and Margaret Atwood. Prompted by the spirit of Shadow Show, as well as that of Goreyesque, Weller and the editors wish to showcase work by emerging writers and artists alongside established professionals.
For every artist influenced by Bradbury’s motto “Live forever!” this is a rare opportunity to participate in a project that seeks to expand on the beauty of Shadow Show, move beyond the page, and create a forum to celebrate the work of a literary icon.

Goreyesque is an online literary journal, established in 2013, which features stories, poems, and artwork inspired by visual storyteller Edward Gorey.
